The latest episode of Risk! Some fans (more specifically, some Nintendo fans) sent a bit of a stir online this week when host Ken Jennings dropped an unexpected reference to one of Nintendo’s favorite Super Mario characters: Waluigi. Although he was often left out of the main Mario games, Waluigi’s fame continued for his meme-level status, so Risk! Viewers were happy to hear his name quote during the last episode.

Despite his past successes, de Guzman’s rival, Emmett Stanton, totally took the lead at one point. Jennings pointed this out and couldn’t help but drop Waluigi’s reference in the process. He and the rest Risk! The team was apparently quite happy with that joke as well, seeing how one of the pop-up clips highlighted by the show’s social accounts was afterward.
Fans were similarly happy with the reference – at least for the most part. Some believed it was a hanging fruit since Luigi’s signal was already there while others praised Jennings for incorporating the kind of signals that might not have been heard in Risk!
